Grocery Shopping Tips 101
Creating a healthy grocery shopping list on a budget does not have to be complicated. It can be an experience for some who may be overwhelmed by the many, many choices that are offered up and down those aisles! One of the keys is to know up front what to look for and what you are looking for. Listed below are some helpful tips on grocery shopping with our health and weight loss in mind.
- Always go to the grocery with a list. Try your best to stick to it! This will help you to stay away from impulse buys which are a lot of times unhealthy.
- NEVER go to the grocery hungry! (I don’t even need to explain) J
- Become label savvy….know the 3 key things to look for on the nutrition facts of the label…
- Watch out for trans fats…the hidden kind too. When looking at fats, check out what source of fat is in the product. Is it trans, saturated etc. Remember, trans fat and saturated fats are the bad sources.
- Check out the 20% rule on the complex/simple sugar…and make sure if the product has sugar that it has at least 3 grams of fiber in it too.
- Check for Sodium content. It is good to have less than 600 mg of sodium per meal. The max is 2000mg per day.
- Become Ingredient savvy…know what to look for in the ingredients list..For example, if the list is really long and has really long words that we can not pronounce…you can pretty much say that it is full of additives and preservatives and not going to be the best choice. There are some key words to look for that will identify a nutrient deficient product…high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, anything that has hydrogenated in front of it, Olestra, Olean, BHT, BHA and monosodium glutamate (msg)
- Purchase lean meats and try to limit deli meats. If buying packaged meat then it is better to have it sliced at the deli. (less preservatives)
- When buying fruit juice…look for not from concentrate.
- Spend most of your time in the produce section. Choose the darker colored fruits and vegetables. Remember, fresh is best, then frozen and last canned.
- Use the grocery shopping lists that I have provided for you too. They are free of additives and preservatives too.

My knee is healed and even though, I am still doing water exercise Mon ., Wed., and Fri., I am going to start back exercising with you on Tues. and Thurs. I am looking forward to it. Jennifer thank you for your encouragement every morning on NRB at 9 am. I lke that you’lve included some new exercises, your daughter, and the dr. Also the Senior dvd was great and I’m using it to help the Seniors at my mom’s apt. to get in shape. We’re loving it!
Jennifer, Your exercise program on the NRB network is so encouraging. I have just recently started back exercising and feel great. Your program is so easy to follow and anyone can do it, no matter their fitness level. I was diagnosed with thyroid disease (hypothyroidism) about 5 years ago and have gained about 40 pounds. I have tried many diets and other exercise programs but nothing has seemed to work. Your program is based on Godly principles along with exercise and I think that is what was missing in the other programs I’ve tried. Even though I’m a Christian, I never thought about putting God first in exercise, I don’t know why I didn’t because God is first in all other aspects of my life. Good morning my sisters and brothers in CHRIST…I have started my 30 day fit journal Jennifer sent to me. Today is day one and the healthy confession for today is Mathew 5:14 I am the light of world and the healthy tip for today is drink @ least 64 .oz of water…well this is a very weak area for me. I am good if I drink 2 cups of water a day. I know all about Criystal light and drink mixes to add to water..just can’t seem to do it. Thiis is something only GOD can do or change. So I decided to to glorify the LORD today in hydrating his temple as much as possible but, I’m calling on YOU in corporate prayer for you to help me to achieve. Let us ALL go forth today and let our light so shine in CHRIST.

Just found your program today on NRB…what an answer to prayer! I’m ‘older than dirt’, and in poor shape at this point…135 lbs overweight…starting to lose now that I have been healed of hypothyroidism, arthritis, and hypertension (praise God!!!)…I have been needing a suitable excercise regimen to get this ‘temple’ back into the shape God intended…just started using a stationary bike, but needed some low impact toning, stretching, and weight training instruction to add to my bike and swimming…I have been following a healthy diet, but would surely appreciate the lists for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner…as I stated, I’m ‘older than dirt’, and don’t want to waste anymore of my life on earth in a deteriorating ‘temple’…I’m determined to be strong and ready to serve in whatever situation the Lord presents to me!!! I give praise to God for directing me to your program, and declare blessing on you and your ministry…thank you for being obedient to the call on your life!!!

I just started exercising with you today and i am enjoying it. I was trying to jog for 1 hour a day, but it is just to boring. I decided i wanted to do your program for the half hour and still jog for a half hour. This will break it up and keep me interested in doing it. Hi Jennifer, I am been exercising with you as often as I can. You come on at 6:00 am in the morning and sometimes miss you, however, I have at least 3 days with you. Please send me a copy of your shopping list. I noticed that at times you change arm positions but the camera is on your feet. I would like to order the video but not sure if that happens on the video too. It is great exercising with you and enjoy all you wisdom and information. It helps to keep our minds off of exercising!! May God bless you abundantly for your Christian efforts and allowing God to use you physically and verbally giving God’s Word.

At 48 and home bound with a disabled child It is so easy to have a pity party and sit all day with her but if I start first thing in the morning with you I feel great all day and want to stay active even if it’s just squats while folding clothes or while feeding her.
